Gary and I got to know each other at the Knickerbocker Field Club, a historic and uniquely located tennis club in Victorian Flatbush, Brooklyn. The club, once surrounded by pastoral suburbs, is now pinned between highrise apartments and the Q/B subway line. Yes, I’ve lost many tennis balls to those subway tracks.
After hitting on the courts, Gary and I were discussing the granularity of our forehands. As we spent time together, I was drawn in by his electric smile and realized I wanted to do a portrait series with him. This was the best kind of personal project because it let me combine my two passions: photography and tennis.
Thanks to Gary for letting me photograph him and for the forehand tips. Enjoy the pics.
